Make Exception Comments Icon Appear Right Away PS 9.2

Hello,

Is there a way to get the exception icon appear for situations where the user needs to enter in exception comments on their expense report without them having to either save the report or submit it for approval?  Prior to 9.2, there was an exception line there for users to enter in, if required, without having to first save.
