Standby Roll Forward Snag; RMAN-06571 After Cataloging Data Files

Hi, DBAs

A roll forward of a standby database returned an unexpected error.  I've fixed it, and the standby is current, but I'm wondering if anyone can explain why the process hit the snag.  Background:

  • Oracle Managed Files
  • 12.1.0.2, 3-instance RAC on Oracle Linux 6, with a RAC standby
  • We do not use Active Data Guard, or the DG broker
  • 22 data files were added to the primary after the gap developed
  • I followed note "Steps to perform for Rolling forward a standby database using RMAN incremental backup when datafile is added to primary (Doc ID 1531031.1)".

Step 8, "switch database to copy", failed with error "RMAN-06571 datafile 71 does not have recoverable copy".

Howdy, Stranger!
