Backward compatibility of viewer EXCEL2013

We recently applied a patch that added Excel 2013 to our list of viewers.  After that all of our journal upload workbooks created using the older viewers fail to upload.  Is there anything else we can do other than recreating all our workbooks using the a fresh download of the related templates?
