Migrating ASM from OL 5 to OL6

My current system is as follows:

Oracle db 11.2.0.4, SE-One, 64bit.

Oracle ASM 11.2.0.4 - Standalone, no RAC, no cluster

Oracle Linux 5.6 64-bit

We are staring to plan for upgrade of Linux to OL 6.

We will not be upgrading the current servers but will get new servers and install OL 6 on them, then migrate.

The big unknown at this point is how to best handle ASM.   My initial search of the MOS KB turned up 1566352.1.  I must be understanding something wrong as I see what appears to be contradictory statements.  Under "Goal"  it states
