Corporate Rate vs Period End Rate

During the 11i to R12 upgrade new Period End and Period Avg rate types were created for each ledger.  We're in the process of creating 1 new Period End rate type and 1 new Period Avg rate type that all the ledgers will use.  Do we really need a Period End rate type if its always the same as the Corporate (daily) rate type for the last day of any period?  Can we just use the Corporate rate type for translations and revals?
