Approvals Management (AME) API to submit transaction to AME for approval?

My requirement is to select Purchase Requisitions with Approval Status of INCOMPLETE, and my job will initiate and submit the AME approval process for each of these Purchase Reqs.

Has anyone had experience using the AME API to submit transactions for approval?

Is this possible, and if so, some advice on where to start?
