Database Install/Upgrade/Opatch (MOSC)

During Postinstallation of OJVM patches, cannot start database instance (2 node RAC)

After installing the latest OJVM patches on NODE-b of a 2 node RAC cluster, I accidentally ran : SQL> startup

I then saw in the instructions that it should have been started > startup upgrade

I then ran "shutdown" then "startup upgrade". I now get errors ORA-01082: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced.

ORA-39701: database must be mounted EXCLUSIVE for UPGRADE or DOWNGRADE.

I am not a DBA (really) . So how do I get this fixed ?  Thanks !

systems are Solaris 10 Oracle DB 11.2.0.4
