online vs hotpatch mode

Hi:

I thought there is a forum just for patching, but couldn't find it.

I have a question regarding EBS version 12.2.4 patching. What is the difference between patch mode for adop set to online and hotpatch? Online means the application system does not need to be shutdown and user can still use the system, correct? Then, what is hotpatch? I would think it means the same thing? Please advise. Thank you.
