sgadef<SID>.dbf, sgadef<SID>.ora Files in dbstart script

Hi,


mentioned files in ORACLE_HOME/dbs are used in Oracle's dbstart script to determine wether instance is running or not as well.

Such files doesn't exist for our 10.2.0.3 databases!

But I couldn't find detailed statements about the usage of the files in the different database relaeses, neither in Oracle Database Documentation nor in My Oracle Support.

In some publications and forums are hints, that the files have been obsolete since at least 8i.

Is there a more exact information everywhere?
