How do I tie the Collection Import Manager program to the data I want imported?

I've looked at the manuals but it doesn't tell me how I get the data into the import table so when I run the program the data is entered into the table.  What I'd like to know, very simply, how do I tie my external table (excel spreadsheet) with the Collection Import Manager program.
