Remove Oracle Home after upgrade on Windows

Hi, I am running Standard Edition on Windows server and recently upgraded the database from 11.2.3.0 to 11.2.4.0 and applied bundle patch.  I would now like to remove the old oracle home (11.2.3.0) to make space for testing the upgrade to 12c.  I have read about the two options: 1) use the deinstall tool or 2) detach home and delete the directories manually.  There seems to be a lot of problems or exposure to using deinstall, so I thought I would try to detach the home and manually delete the directory.  Does this have to be done from the windows
