T10KC / T10KD / NBU compatibility

Do you have to reformat T10KD tapes using VOP to T10KC format to be able to use them in a T10KC drive or will just writing a new NBU label to them be sufficient?  Customer wants to move spare T10KD tapes to his T10KC scratch pool as he has no T10KC spares.
