Variable length and width of items

Hi All,

I would like to know how we can tackle below situation if we are using Oracle Inventory Module.

Company buys Steel Plates and are having multiple item codes for different length & width.Item description carries length and width information like "120” W x 480” L" with UOM as "Each/Numbers"

These plates are used for certain projects and then later on balanced qty is returned to warehouse. Now problem comes when the plates are return back as they are used on a project the dimension gets changed like on a specific project the length & width of the plate is reduced to 100" which is not correct as per the item description now. Since the dimension has changed for the return material can't be taken back in the same item code because it will show wrong on-hand qty and cost. And on the other hand end user wants to see
