Does updating ilom version require a system reboot?

I need to update the ILOM versions to enable JAVA 7 on the clients (ie laptop) to use the console redirection.

Reading the following MOS knowledge item

Update Exadata ILOM firmware manually from Storage Cell software patchset (Doc ID 1327022.1)

It seems to suggest that there will be a ILOM version upgrade, that just restarts the ILOM processes but then goes on to talk about ILOM FW which I assume is the BIOS and that does need a system reboot.

Do I actually need to upgrade the FW or can I just upgrade the ILOM version without the outage?
