Asset Number Form - Fixed Asset Synchronization

Hi,

I am unable to understand the purpose of Synchronization (check box), appearing under Fixed Asset Number/Category field (asset number entry form -> others tab)
.

Would someone please guide me the purpose of this check box. I tried to find it in Oracle eAM documentation but couldn't get success.
