ASM and Cluster upgrade in a physical standby environment

We have an Oracle 11.1 Primary and Physical Standby Data Guard environment running on 3 node RAC systems. We are going to be upgrading the cluster and ASM versions to 11.2. We would like to perform the upgrades on the standby system on one weekend and then upgrade the primary site on a different weekend. Can the upgrades to the cluster and ASM be performed on the standby system without immediately upgrading the primary site system?
