How to make a Picklist value as Predefault when this does not come from a LOV?

Hi all,

I am trying to set a picklist value as predefault (Property Predefault value), BC Sales Method. This Value doesn't come from a LOV, so when I set under Predefault for example like this: "Sales" or 'Sales' or just Sales, nothing happens. When I try to create a new record, the corresponding field still appears empty. Can please somebody help me? what am I doing wrong?.

I would appreciate any help.
