Are Oracle Financial modules stand alone applications?

Hi,

We are planning to implement Oracle Subledger (Payables). My question is should we also implement  General Ledger from Oracle or some other ERP application would work too? Please let me know if there are any questions. My understanding is every application is a stand alone application that means we can have Oracle AP and Legacy GL. Please clarify.
