Oracle User Management Integration to Custom Java Based User Interface Application

Hi All

Has anyone Integrated Oracle's User Management Security Layers outside of Oracle's Development Framework, for example with a 100% Custom User Interfaces (Application) that makes RESTful Calls to EBS  Wrapper APIs. We seek understand leading practices for such an approach.
