Failure codes linked to Equipment cost analysis

Hello People,

The customer wants to set up only the major equipment as an equipment in the system, not the smaller components involved. Also they want to use the failure code extensively and use the tree to attach the components to the codes.

I wanted to know how can this be managed in the equipment cost analysis. Could you please throw some light on this or point me to a document I could refer to?
