Maintaining Version history for Monthly Forecast

Hi

For a scenario (forecast), we following rolling method to forecast for 36 months. Every month, monthly forecast amount is entered.

Example, In May-15, forecast is calculated from Jun-15 til May-18.  In next month (Jun-15), cycle will run from Jul-15 to Jun-18.

Requirement is to maintain forecast numbers every month as history and for comparison (i.e. May as well as Jun.)

In this case, we were planning to create monthly versions(May-15, Jun-15, Jul-15 etc) as placeholders to maintain forecast history.   Wanted to check if  this is this right method or there is alternate solution approach to this ?

Planning version 11.1.2.4.000
