Custom buttons appearing above applet title in Open UI, button methods not invoked

Since upgrading to IP 2014 from 8.1.1.9, we have one applet with 3 custom buttons where the buttons are now appearing above the applet title only in OpenUI.  The buttons also look as though they are working when you click them (they indent but do not invoke the egg timer cursor) but do not actually invoke the associated method.  In the HI client this applet still looks and works fine, as it did in the previous version of OpenUI.  All other applets in the upgraded version of OpenUI the buttons appear below the applet title.
