OPM Lot Cost start date change

What are the ramifications of changing the start date on the cost type for OPM lot costing when you no longer have any onhand quantity on lots that are 1-2 years old?

The lot cost process is taking all day to run because it is looking back to 01-JAN-2013 (the current start date).
