upgrade install OGG software only then upgrade

Hi,

I'm working on an upgrade of a GG installation from 11.2.1.0.6 to the latest version available for my SPARC server.  As I want to install the new software in a different directory therefore I plan to install the software only first (install without starting up the manager).  Once the new environment is prepared, I plan to follow the below steps.  I've read the Upgrade manual and the new install guide and it's not clear that plan won't work, but I'm hoping someone can let me know if I'm missing some major step.

copy GLOBALS from old to new home
copy parameter files from old to new home
