What are the basic steps when designing a new interface for journals import to GL ?

Hi,

We are currently feeding data from source application to  main frames to oracle gl.

In the process of retiring the main frames , what are the basic steps that are needed to design a new interface from source application to Oracle GL for revenue journal imports.
