Multiple places to enter chartfields in Basic Add

Hello! I wanted to ask about the various locations to enter chartfields in Basic Add. I've found three seperate places to enter them: acquisition details link, after capitalizing an asset, and on the Manufacturer/License/Custodian tab. What is the purpose of each of these? Do they relate to one another and if so, how?
