Non-Oracle Infiniband HCA on UEK

I originally posted this question under the Linux Operating System (MOSC), but I thought I'd post it here as well to get some more eyes on it.

Doc ID 1529874.1 states that “Non-Oracle HCA in Infiniband mode are not supported on Oracle Linux with UEK on Oracle and 3rd party hardware.”  How would an Oracle Fabric Interconnect factor in to this?  The Oracle Fabric Interconnect lists many Non-Oracle HCAs as compatible, but also lists Oracle Linux and Oracle VM as compatible.
