Changing purchasing categories

today we have a purchasing category with this structure XX.XX.XXX.

When we try to enter character value

a message is display to say that only numeric values are allowed.

Is this restriction is setup in the descriptive flexfield and can we change this in order to setup alphanumeric categroies ?
