cifs mount is displaying in red

a cifs mount that was used successfully last night is now showing up in 'red' and the permission and owner have been replaced with a question mark (?)

what does this mean, if we try to write to the directory we get a permission denied.

oracle Linux 5.8

we unmounted the directory and remounted it and now it appears to be displaying ok.... what could have caused this ???
