Has anyone pursued the idea of making business unit category codes date sensitive?

The request was made by the Quest Financial SIG and was accepted as a valid enhancement by JDE, but I don't see that any progress has been made in actually developing the enhancement. I am wondering if anyone has developed this internally or knows of any JDE functionality that would preserve category code history on business units so historical reporting can be repeated.  We use the cat codes for consolidations.  As companies are moved from one group to another, there is no way to go back and run historical reports accurately without the category codes to be date effective.
