upgrade from 11.1.2.1 to 11.1.2.3.500

Hello, We are planning to upgrade from 11.1.2.1 to 11.1.2.3.500. Should we first upgrade to 11.1.2.3 and then apply the patch .500 or download the patch file and unzip along with the installation files and install on one go?

We actually tried to upgrade to 11.1.2.4 and ran into various issues.

Your help here is much appreciated.
