Changing Calendar

Using 11.1.2.4.  If you have created periods using the 'base' calendar that comes with the system, it seems like you can not create future periods using a 'custom' calendar.  Is this correct?

Creating new periods for future years does not give the option to change the calendar.  Can you only have one calendar in the system?  What will be the process if in the future you need to use custom calendar?  Thanks.
