Duplicate Product created Pricing Center

We are observing an issue while modifying details for a product in pricing center. After updating prorate flag under rate plan and then perform commit to database. It creates a new product instead of modifying the existing ones, however, when we apply the changes again it modify the existing ones. When are the fields taken as user key to consider the product as already exsists or not?
