Is 2.6.18 ELsmp really required for 10.2.0.5?

I'm attempting a DB upgrade from 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.5

The OS is Redhat Linux 2.6.9-55.

runInstaller is complaining about the OS version

Checking for VERSION=2.6.18; found VERSION=2.6.9-55.ELsmp.      Failed <<<<

I'm new here, but we have this same OS version running a couple other 10.2.0.5 databases.

I can add -ignoreSysPrereqs to the installation, but why is Oracle enforcing this rule if it's not really required?

Thanks in advance,

Jay
