Why would the XER file of a project suddenly increase after exporting from approximately 800 K to 12

The XER file of the same project from the previous week is only 800 K, but now when exporting the same project this week the XER file is 12 M?  There are some minor changes, but both versions of the schedule have the same number of activities and relationships.  Where is this addition 11 M coming from?  Is it a corruption of some kind, and if so how do we fix it?
