SL150 audit (inventory) duration

In the  StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library User's Guide (E24606-09) we read

An audit of a 30-cartridge library takes about seven minutes, for example.

I would like to understand why taking an inventory through the SL150 audit procedure takes such a long time.

Making use of the LTO barcode labels, I would expect that an inventory should be finished within a couple of seconds.

Thanks for sharing your explanation or your own numbers from operational experience.
