Virtual Columns in EVENT_T table

Hi,

How virtual columns helps in reducing space of event_t table ? if i add one new column ( virtual ) by using pin_virtual_gen utility in event_t then the values will be stored in the same database right ? Instead of virtual column if i add new field by using PODL then how it will differ from this ?
