What is the necessity of Intermediate Batches

1) What is the use of Intermediate Batches in Oracle Process Manufacturing?

2) Is it only related for planning purpose like calculating the Total Lead time to produce a final Batch and accordingly plan resource and material in advance?

3) I am implementing Oracle EBS for one of the Aquaculture client which I heard may be the first one to implement Oracle EBS. Below is the architechture of process.

   i)  Import BR1 material from US and Third party vendor collect it from Quarantine facility in Chennai and does the maturation process of 40 days. This can be happen         inside Client facility or at third party facility. If Maturation process going to happen inside client facility (CL1) then it Third Party supplier will deliver         BR1 Item to Client facility CL1.
