HFM Intercomapny Matching reports - Export to Excel

We are using HFM intercomapny matching reports, exporting to excel.  However, when we export to excel, we cannot use excel formulas on totals or subtotals.  there seems to be spaces after the numbers and cannot remove with replace.  Does anyone know why they are there.  If we remove one at a time, the cell becomes a number and can use excel formulas; however, hundreds of rows.  Does anyone know what they are and how to remove them?
