Emailing functionality from the Equipment Work Order applications

Hello,

Could someone tell me if the emailing functionality from the WO applications (P13700, P48201) requires workflow or is it just about setting up the SMTP server etc? I am talking about the automatic mails sent to Supervisor/Crew and Originator.
