ASM Storage failure.

Recently we had a bad experience. We have 40 databases on two node RAC. It is critical Test environment. We had to add new storage to ASM and while doing that we encountered irrecoverable error "ORA-15196: invalid ASM block header". Looks like ASM header got corrupted and was not recoverable. So we had to restore 40 databases from backup. So the question is that what Oracle provides or can provide in this kind of situation where ASM storage/Disk Group/Disk is not recoverable and all the  data is on that ASM Diskgroup.

Is there any ASM storage high availability feature available or any other thing or ant preventive measures which can be taken before doing this kind of stuff.

Howdy, Stranger!
