Database shutdown/startup on reboot?
Hello, I'm a Solaris Administrator/consultant, not a DBA but have supported many DBA's and Oracle Databases for many customers over the years.
I'm working this place now where I am helping to migrate from very old Sun hardware to new hardware on Solaris 11.2 with Oracle 12c DBMS. It is an educational environment and the primary application is something called BANNER.
The DBA's here are insisting on something that I have never experienced before. They want to be involved in every database shutdown and startup, in other words no automation. They also claim a need for high availability which makes no sense if the database can't survive a reboot, whether scheduled or unscheduled.
