Large volume of GL Code Combination records - Why , How can we stop from growing more?

Dear Oracle GL Guru,

We are currently running on Oracle EBS R12.1.3

We have Oracle GL, AR, AP, FA, CE, PO, XTR, iExpense, iProcurement and iSupplier applications.

We have defined 3 COA in our GL.

We have6 GL account# segments as Entity, Business Unit, Cost Center, Account, Project & TBD segments.

We are running Oracle EBS applications since 1994.

We have around 350,000 GL Code combination with 300,000 enabled and active gl code combinations.

We are a not for profit technical engineering membership, subscription organization.

We have currently our GL Code Combination record Dynamic Insertion enabled.

Here are my questions:

1-      Why do we have so active many code combination records in our GL application?
