How to differentiate type of patches

Hi Team,

I need some clarification on  how we can differentiate type of patches. if i download any patch how we will come to know that its one-off patch,mini patch or family patch or upgrade patch?

any technical way to find? or by reading an readme or with by Abstract or anything with non-technical.
