JD Edwards E1 (Tools 9.1.5) Web Client QBE search for strings containing Equal Sign

We have some string fields containing an equal (=) character and were not able to figure out how to search for those values in the QBE via web interface Find/Browse. Is this even possible? If so, how? I tried javascript style escape, html encode, etc.
