Customer Merge impacts to Pricing Modifier Qualifiers

We are using Oracle v11.5.10.  We've seen that when we do a customer merge between accounts that have pricing modifier qualifiers, the merge process up will update the merged account modifier, replacing the customer qualifier with the account that it is merged with.  This results in 2 pricing qualifiers for the same customer account.  Is there a way to either not make this update to the qualifier or to also apply an end-date to the pricing qualifier entry?  I found some notes on this on Metalink Doc ID 363766.1 and BUG 4752705, but I couldn't find any way to "influence" the merge process.  Thanks for any assistance.
