Obsolete inventory

Dear All,

   How to treat obsolete inventory, below are the two scenarios.

     1. Inventory bought for 10000 USD not been issued or put to use and kept in Inventory for 4 years. Current value of the item is 2000 USD and if it is treated Obsolete how this need to be recorded.

     2. If the obsolete item of 2000 USD is sold for 1000 USD, what will be the transactions.
