How to reduce risk when mass updating Item Branch?

Hi,

I have a request to mass update 3 fields on the Item Branch table: Accounting Cost Quantity, Time Basis Code and Issue Type Code.  I am wanting to know the least risk solution to mass update these fields.

I note from support document (E1 41 How to Create Item Master and Item Branch Plant Records Using Interoperability (Doc ID 625451.1)) that using Interoperability to update Item Master/Branch poses significant risk because of the need to map EVERY field in the z-file, otherwise the Master/Branch field will be overwritten with Blank.

I also note from looking at the Cross Reference (P980011) application, that these fields are used in a significant number of tables, so I expect there is a significant risk of causing data integrity problems if associated tables are not also updated.
