GL Balance updates issue

Hi,

We have opened previous month GL period and posted few transactions from subledger. Here my question is do we need to open all periods till this month to get the updated balances which I posted in previous month.

Ex: I have opened May period and posted, do I need to open till Aug periods to get monthly balances update or not required for opening periods.
