Is Direct NFS in RAC supported for ASM,OCR

We have been seeing numerous issues on NFS sharing file system for both Single & RAC instances on 11g & 12c versions.

We are using ASM/GRID on both 11g & 12c and NFS for VD/OCR etc.,

As part of futuristic expansion of large production servers, we are exploring various options to replace NFS. Direct NFS is being recommended by many and i see this feature is enabled by default in 12c(Seems to be bug)

I dont have much information or idea how this Direct NFS supports RAC for OCR/VD and ASM etc.,

Can somebody shed some light on this with industry best practices on handling NFS relates issues and Direct NFS as solution for RAC on 11g/12c.
